The Mortal Kombat universe is filled with compelling characters, each with their own intricate backstories and destinies. Among these, Cyrax, the yellow Lin Kuei cyborg, stands out. A burning question for fans is: What Happened To Cyrax In Mortal Kombat? His transformation, service, and eventual fate have made him a figure of both intrigue and tragedy within the series.
From Lin Kuei Assassin to Cybernetic Savior
Cyrax, originally a human assassin named Sektor, was forcibly transformed into a cyborg as part of the Lin Kuei’s Cyber Initiative. This transformation is arguably the most significant event in his timeline, completely altering his existence. The Initiative aimed to create emotionless, loyal warriors by removing the human element. Other members of the clan were also subjected to this process including Sektor, Smoke and Sub-Zero (in some timelines). This led to complex motivations and conflicts throughout the series. His initial programming was to serve the Lin Kuei with unwavering obedience, carrying out assassinations and acting as a formidable force.
However, Cyrax’s story takes a unique turn. Unlike his fellow cyborgs, notably Sektor, Cyrax retained a semblance of his former humanity. He struggled with the lack of free will and began to question his programming. This internal conflict culminated in his alliance with Sonya Blade and Jax Briggs of the Outer World Investigation Agency (OIA) and later the Special Forces.
- His allies are: Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs
- His enemies are: Sektor, Smoke (in some timelines), Shao Khan
His alliance with Earthrealm’s defenders proved to be pivotal. He not only aided them in their battles against Outworld threats but also provided valuable information about the Lin Kuei’s cybernetic program. This ultimately led to his reprogramming by the Special Forces. Once free from the Lin Kuei’s control, Cyrax dedicated himself to assisting Earthrealm, using his cybernetic abilities for good.
- Served the Lin Kuei
- Joined Earthrealm
- Reprogrammed by Special Forces
His story concludes in a somewhat ambiguous manner. During his time helping Earthrealm, he was lost in the outworld. He was then transported to a desert. It isn’t known exactly what happened to him after the events of Mortal Kombat. However, in Mortal Kombat 11, it is stated that Cyrax and Sektor were reprogrammed by Kronika and are now fully obedient to her will.
